Women in Art Prize 2023
While in London last March, I had the pleasure of meeting with Gabrielle du Ploy. Gabrielle, Art consultant /Art agent at Zebra One Gallery, had just been nominated to head the Women In Art Prize 2023, formerly the Hollybush Painting Prize, generously sponsored by Dame Emma Thompson, Susan Angoy, The Tim May Memorial Prize, The Mall Galleries London, Cass Art Genesis Imaging & Zebra One Gallery. The Women In Art Prize is part of a broader project with "Women In Art" to assist and celebrate women artists. It focuses on the careers of emerging female painters and photographers.
The Women in Art Prize formerly "The Hollybush Painting Prize", aims to correct the imbalance in the art world. Top London galleries exhibit and sell more work by male artists, while the works of females are not exhibited as much and sell less than their male counterparts. This prize aims to support, encourage and mentor emerging women painters and photographers.
''The female world is a little-known universe. Women for millennia have been represented by men and used as a function of inspiration for their actions. Therefore, the feminine is still an unrecognized space to be brought out in all its nuances. Art today offers a chance for personal fulfillment and, if well managed, also for professionalism with an economic value in a world where more and more precariousness in the world of work and the difficulties of existence are relevant, especially for women.''
It is my pleasure to invite all women artists who embrace cultural diversity while nurturing our common humanity to participate in this artistic initiative.
