“70th Birthday: Thunder, Tears and Togetherness”

“Last Sunday, while the storm raged—lightning streaking across the sky and rain pouring down—my guests braved the elements to gather at the Kingfisher Pub and celebrate my seventieth birthday. That tumultuous atmosphere reminded me of the day I was born: my older sister Astrid, only ten years old at the time, had persuaded our uncle to take her to the hospital to see our mother and newborn sibling, despite trees felled by a tornado.

Surrounded by my family, cousins, and friends, I experienced an unforgettable evening. Since arriving in Hudson, I was fortunate to meet Sylvain—thanks to my sister Lise—and both helped me find the ideal, secure retreat nestled in nature, which inspires my artistic practice.

I am deeply grateful to Lise, who orchestrated the celebration with such generosity, and to Sylvain, who arranged a delicious assortment of hors d’œuvres prepared by Chef Mike. My thanks also go to Charlie, the venue owner, for reserving the upstairs, and to Kelsey, whose warm service reflected the spirit of Kingfisher.

The spontaneous tributes from Lise and Sylvain moved me deeply; my sister highlighted my ability to forge connections around the world—a priceless treasure in my eyes. At seventy, I appreciate more than ever the value of relationships and good health.

Finally, I warmly thank everyone who shared in this milestone: my family—Lise, Réjean, Astrid, and Gaby; Karine, Laurie, and Jean‑François; Annie and Sylvain—my cousins Langevin, Sylvie, Chantale, and Dominic; and my friends Bousmaha, Jean‑François, Darcie, Elise, Mario, and Peter.”
