Hudson - "A Mini‑Manhattan Oasis: In Harmony with Nature by the Lake"

When I retired from the United Nations in 2017 and left New York, I had the privilege of spending six months at my sister’s home in Hudson, Québec. While she was in Florida at the time, I discovered a small-town life where nature flourishes alongside the community. That peaceful interlude led me to Les Cèdres, where my cousins welcomed me into their family for the following six years.

My cousins, the Langevin Family

My Langevin cousins Chantale and Dominic even made the journey to New York to help me relocate to Canada—after a decade in Manhattan, I had no clear idea of where to settle. Their support reminded me that life often unfolds in mysterious ways when we trust in what the universe has in store.

Following my retirement, I journeyed extensively—to Paris, southern France, Bordeaux, Thonon-les-bains, Geneva, London and Lake Como, and beyond. In 2017, I began exploring Tunisia, then traveled to Florence, where I participated in the Florence Biennale. There, I was honored with the Lorenzo il Magnifico award—5th Prize for Photography—an unforgettable milestone.

Today, thanks to my sister Lise and my friend Sylvain, I’ve found a safe and inspiring home in Hudson during a challenging period of my life—health and affairs of the heart. I feel profoundly blessed to live in a place that mirrors my artistic journey, rooted in our relationship with the natural world.

Located in Vaudreuil–Soulanges just 60 km west of Montreal, Hudson is celebrated for its vibrant, bilingual community and its idyllic setting along the Lake of Two Mountains. Town life here is anchored by a strong arts culture—music festivals, visual-arts groups, community theatre, and galleries abound. .

Hudson’s character is unmistakably unique. Framed by tranquil landscapes and historic homes, it draws artists and musicians who find inspiration in its rural charm. It’s a nurturing environment where creativity and nature intertwine—perfectly aligned with my artistic purpose.

Today, as I enter a new chapter of my life, I feel in perfect harmony—as if I'm living in a mini‑Manhattan—because I can walk everywhere and find everything I need within reach. Beyond the convenience of my neighbourhood, I’m surrounded by tranquil trails that echo the beauty of my favourite place, Lake Como. Here, those paths lead me to the Lake of Two Mountains (Lac des Deux‑Montagnes), framed by lush greenery and distant peaks. I feel truly blessed to be living in such an inspiring setting!
