“Nature’s Canvas: A Kingfisher Dream”

I want to express my heartfelt thanks to the owners of Le Pub Kingfisher—Charlie, Darryl, Carlie, and Mike—for inviting me to exhibit my artwork in their welcoming pub, now quickly becoming the new cultural hub of Hudson.

As a newcomer to Hudson, I’ve immediately been embraced by a community that cherishes its charming village just beyond Montreal. When Charlie, Darryl, Carlie, and Mike chose Hudson as the home for their pub, they sought a place that was as community-driven and friendly as they are—and they found it here.

The pieces on display are distinctive both in form and technique: photographs digitally scanned and transferred onto canvas, then meticulously enhanced with hand‑applied oil paint. Drawing inspiration from the Impressionists’ departure from strict realism, this series unfolds into a dreamscape—a harmonious blend of imagery and color that transcends ordinary photography, inviting viewers into a world where imagination and nature coexist peacefully.

As proclaimed in the speech from the throne, “Nature is core to Canada’s identity.” I believe Hudson’s identity goes even deeper—rooted in its remarkable natural landscape, its vibrant and caring community, and a lifestyle that places environmental stewardship at its core. This picturesque town owes much of its beauty and character to its commitment to preserving the tranquility and charm of its surroundings.

Reflecting that spirit, in May 2024 Hudson officially adopted the Belted Kingfisher (Megaceryle alcyon) as its emblematic bird. This emblem has resonated with local businesses too—Le Pub Kingfisher proudly carries the bird’s name, capturing its resilient and spirited essence.

What truly sets the pub apart, however, is the genuine warmth of its founders—Charlie, Darryl, Carlie, and Mike. Their passion for community, rather than profit above all, shines through in everything they do. By naming the pub after Hudson’s official bird, they’ve woven the town’s values—community and respect for nature—into the very fabric of their establishment.

Lastly, the artwork here reflects all of this—a dreamscape born of the natural world, where our collective humanity finds harmony and balance. It’s a celebration of imagination, nature, and community, all showcased beneath the friendly roof of Le Pub Kingfisher.
