New Year’s Eve at Kingfisher Pub felt like a prelude to the celebration awaiting us on New Year’s Day at Rube’s. There was that familiar joyful energy we so often experience at the Pub. Two of the owners, Charlie & Darryl, were present, offering their warm wishes to patrons on the final day of 2025.
Yet amidst the cheer, we received heartbreaking news. Our friend Jess arrived to tell us that her husband, Mark, had passed away the previous Sunday. She shared that she had spent the last two days alone in their home and needed the comfort and support of her friends.
Losing someone we love is always devastating, but it feels especially heavy during the holidays—a time traditionally filled with joy and togetherness. It is a poignant reminder that life, in all its beauty, also carries moments of profound sorrow.
