Welcoming the New Year at Rube’s Restaurant

Together with our extended family of friends, we reserved a table for fifteen to celebrate the New Year at Rube’s Restaurant. Our host for the evening was none other than the owner, Lee Michaelson—a familiar face at Kingfisher Pub and very much part of our circle. The first time I discovered Rube’s was thanks to our friend Peter, who invited Sylvain and me for dinner. That evening remains unforgettable. I ordered the lobster, already removed from its shell and generously bathed in garlic butter. It was, without question, the best lobster I have ever tasted—and one I have been dreaming about ever since.

Lee’s passion for his restaurant is unmistakable. His vibrant energy fills the room as he speaks about the careful preparation behind each evening’s reservations. Though he openly admits that the restaurant business is a roller coaster, his enthusiasm never falters. He continues to meet life’s challenges with resilience and heart. His cuisine reflects that same spirit—creative yet grounded, offering classic dishes elevated by fresh, thoughtfully sourced ingredients.

Since 1978, Restaurant Rube has been devoted to the art of smoked cuisine, nurturing a legacy built on dedication and authenticity. More than 48 years ago, it opened its doors with a simple vision: to serve exceptional smoked meat in a warm, welcoming setting. At the heart of the kitchen stands their legendary smoker, faithfully transforming each cut of meat into a memorable culinary experience. Slowly cooked at low temperatures and infused with carefully selected wood essences, every dish carries the imprint of decades of expertise.

Whether gathered with family, friends, or colleagues, Restaurant Rube welcomes its guests into a rustic and convivial setting where every meal becomes a moment of genuine connection and shared joy. It was only natural that we chose Rube’s Restaurant to celebrate the New Year with the Kingfisher Pub Family of Friends. The pub’s owners, Darryl and Charlie, joined us in a true spirit of camaraderie, offering their support with no hint of competition. They understand, perhaps better than most, how challenging it is to thrive in the demanding world of the food industry, and they genuinely rejoice when others succeed. The evening unfolded as a truly memorable New Year’s celebration, with joy unquestionably at the top of the menu.

Happy New Year to our family and friends. May peace prevail in the world during these troubled times for humanity..
